Position Title: Food Service Assistant #3
Location: Howell High School 10-12
Reports To: Kitchen Manager, Food Service Director and/or Principal/Assistant Principal
Status: Ten (10) month position (21.25 hrs/week; 4.25 hrs/day; 9:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.);
First day of school for students - Last day of school for students
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
SUMMARY:
The Food Service Assistant provides support in our student nutrition program by working in our school cafeterias by preparing and serving food, cleaning and sanitizing all items and areas within the department, handling food purchase transactions, all while providing excellent customer service to staff and students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Turn on hot wells and sandwich slide on Highlander Grille station. - Make food for Highlander Grille; put hamburgers and grilled chicken in 2” full pan with a small amount of water, foil and bake, bake chicken items daily - Bring up 4 – 2” pans to make chicken - Get pans and food items to pan up food for Grille area for next day. - Take food temps and record on production record. - Cook and prepare chicken for boneless buffalo and sriracha chicken. - Wrap sandwiches and put into boat with fries and put on sandwich slider. - Put popcorn chicken, chicken tenders and bulk fries (regular and sweet potato) on line for serving. - Take temperature of food and record on Production record. - Serve food on Highlander Grille line. - Change dried pans on serving line as needed. - Take temperature of all food and record on production record - Pan up food for next day. - Record any food left on production record and cooking log. Complete production record. - Break down line/wipe tables. - Clean and sanitize Highlander grille area inside and out. - Do dishes. - Clean oven #5 once a week. - Clean walls, lights and ceiling once a month. - Clean bathroom according to schedule.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma (or equivalent); and must pass a basic math skills test.

- Ability to read and comprehend instructions;
- Ability to work with the general public and students.

- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administration and the school community.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as cooking, washing dishes and operation of a computer keyboard, cash register, and telephone. The employee is required to be on his/her feet walking around the cafeteria and food service department building for several hours at a time. The employee is required to exert physical effort in work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds from floor to waist height. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY:
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Occasionally the employee may be required to be outdoors for a short period of time, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this job. This position requires the employee to work in different building cafeteria and food service departments as needed. The ability to travel via employee’s automobile between buildings is required.
