Description

Position:   Music Staff - Band Assistant

 

Location:  Howell High School (10-12)

  

Wages:  $16.00/hour

 

*Position will be hired via EDUStaff.

 

MARCHING BAND (MARCH – NOVEMBER)

  • Schedule and attend marching band and band camp information meeting
  • Create and assemble information and registration packets
  • Collect and process student paperwork and payments
  • Collect overdue payments and send overdue notifications
  • Collect and process camp chaperone paperwork and payments
  • Maintain marching band database and roster via Excel
  • Responsible for submitting band camp contract to camp location.  Make camp deposit and final payment.
  • Assist Band Director with marching band music selection.  Copy and organize music.
  • Process band camp staff paperwork
  • Work as liaison between Howell Public Schools human resources staff, EduStaff and camp staff to ensure licensing regulations are adhered to and payroll requirements met
  • Attend football games – assist Band Director with student management and help as needed
  • Coordinate marching band rehearsals.  Reserve facilities for rehearsals 
  • Schedule Fantasy of Lights and Memorial Day parade practices and reserve busses
  • Ensure all required paperwork is completed properly and submitted in a timely manner to ensure registrations and camp licensing compliance.

FIRST WEEKS OF SCHOOL

  • Compose and assemble student information packets
  • Locker and lock distribution.  Maintain locker/lock student data base in Excel
  • Assign school owned instruments to any students that need one
  • Assist Band Director with student orientation and program implementation

CONCERT & MARCHING BAND UNIFORMS

  • Schedule and organize uniform fittings
  • Assist with fittings as needed 
  • Collect and process payments for concert band attire
  • Organize distribution of uniforms.  Assist with ironing and preparing uniforms as needed
  • Coordinate uniform assignment and manage inventory
  • Main point of contact between band program and uniform suppliers

SOLO & ENSEMBLE

  • Collect payments and process registration paperwork
  • Assist with music selection and copies

LIVINGSTON COUNTY HONORS BAND

  • Reserve band room and facilities for auditions every year and concert every 4 years
  • Copy and organize music

LIBRARY

  • Organize music folders in score order.  Maintain music database with online library management system”Charms”.
  • File and organize music.  Copy music as needed.

CONCERTS

  • Prepare and copy concert program
  • Attend concert and assist with student and stage management at the concert

PARADES

  • Reserve busses and coordinate logistics for parades (Homecoming, Fantasy of Lights and Memorial Day)
  • Copy music and assist at parade rehearsals

FESTIVAL (annual band competition)

  • Schedule event and reserve busses
  • Complete required paperwork and submit payment.  Ensure paperwork is properly completed and submitted on time.
  • Copy music
  • Attend events and assist as needed

AUDITIONS

  • Enter quarterly audition scores and feedback in Excel database
  • Print and copy audition feedback forms for students to review
  • Prepare feedback analysis to ensure that students are properly advancing

BAND TRIP (every 2 years)

  • Assemble and prepare trip information forms/packet
  • Enter information and maintain Excel spreadsheet with student and chaperone data
  • Send and process fundraising payments to trip company
  • Communicate information and updates to travelers
  • Help select and copy music
  • Main point of contact between band program and trip company.  Maintain all communications to ensure proper registrations.

WEEKLY

  • Classroom management – assist students during and outside of class time
  • Copy music and keep music organized in and out of the library
  • Accounts payable and receivable
  • Collect mail and process as needed
  • Assist with attendance, classroom announcements and scheduling events
  • Liaison between Band Boosters organization and band program.  
  • Compose and post/share communications for parents and students via email, social media and the band blog

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as operation of a computer keyboard, security equipment and telephone/walkie talkie. The employee is required to be on his/her feet walking around the school building or outer perimeters of the school campus for several hours at a time. The employee is may be required to exert physical effort in work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, running, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds from floor to waist height.  Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY:

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud. The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Occasionally the employee may be required to be outdoors for a short period of time, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this job.  This position requires the employee to work in different areas of the building as needed. The ability to travel via employee’s automobile between buildings is required.
